Environmental Education

A new attitude
towards the environment

There is a Law from 1999 whose essence is respected from A to Z when we put into practice our actions focused on Environmental Education.

In its cold and direct wording, the Law so defines in its article 1: "Environmental education is understood as the processes through which the individual and the collectivity build social values, knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies aimed at the conservation of the environment, an asset of common use of the people, essential to a healthy quality of life and its sustainability."

We work 365 days a year.

With actions closely associated to the fundamental values of BSGI, the entity to which we are linked, which have as their guiding principles Education, Culture, and Peace, believing in the inseparability of human beings and the environment. It is much more than planting trees, teaching people to plant them, and showing them their value.

It is to bring up the importance of trees and the adoption of new habits regarding the environment.

Changing attitudes.

We are signatories of the Earth Charter, which is not a simple document full of good intentions, but a commitment that generates obligations.

On the other hand, we have been very successful in attracting companies to sign Earth Charter commitments.

It is no secret that it is one thing for a government Decree to be signed and another thing for it to actually be followed by the Society.

The Brazilian, with his traditional good humor, would affirm that in Brazil “there are laws that stick and laws that don’t”.

When a businessman or a chief executive, himself, aware of the responsibility with which his company signs the Earth Charter pledge, takes responsibility for bringing the guidance “down the ranks”, this brings about the adoption of new attitudes on the part of workers and their families towards the environment.

In other words, the Law becomes easier to “stick”.

Raising everyone’s awareness

By extension, everyone ends up receiving the healthy awareness – children that are still in day care, young school children, university students, teachers, doctors, workers, companies, entrepreneurs, authorities, riverside people, the so-called senior citizens, members of organizations of various faiths.

Many Ways of Support

It is wonderful, for example, how naturally and enthusiastically young people assimilate all the practical, formal and informal teachings they receive during guided visits to our private natural heritage reserve (RPPN) or in school events.

In this sense, it is very encouraging to receive, as we have been receiving, the support of different private partners and public organizations such as the Municipal Education Secretariat of Manaus, the Universities based in Manaus and other States in the execution of projects that reach an ever-increasing number of people from all social strata.

Environment

The term “environment” almost always refers to bucolic images of pristine rivers, bright greenery, waterfalls. Environment for us (and not only for us, see, for example, the UN definition) is everything that involves the place we inhabit, wherever it may be. It implies all the care for nature, human beings, the environment, and everything that everyone should be concerned about in order to make life better. Even if you live in the central part of a large metropolis
