Coupling of objectives
in each project

In practical terms, it works like this: every environmental education activity that we carry out; every new scientific project that is executed; every tree that is planted in one of the projects of the Soka Amazon Institute and its partners, the greater the contribution to the living conditions of this region and its people.

There is a detail that must be emphasized: a scientific research project is never exclusively a scientific research project. Seeds collected, studied and treated will give origin to trees that will be of great significance in our plantations; will be a subject in one of the environmental education classes; or will contribute to the health of the Amazonian flora.

This interconnection of goals happens in each of our activities.

Not just for show

What’s more, it’s great to see the growing awareness of the fundamentals of Environmental Education, both on the part of people from all walks of life and on the part of companies that, on the one hand, are aware of their social responsibilities and, on the other, realize that every day the market is attentive and gives preference to brands that, out of conviction, adopt and demonstrate environmentally friendly attitudes.

All the actions we carry out have shown themselves to be instruments capable of uniting institutions, people, and capable of uniting even members of different philosophies and religions.

Learn about our projects here.

We are convinced that they will help the world (which addresses the Amazon so constantly) to realize that companies and corporations based in Brazil, and especially based in the Amazon region, are concerned about the Amazon itself and support initiatives like ours, which seek to preserve the forest and provide better living conditions for the people.

Seeds of Life

For every child born a tree is planted

For each child born in the Moura Tapajós public maternity hospital in the city of Manaus, a tree is planted. Along with the baby’s birth certificate, the parents receive a planting certificate, issued with the child’s name, identifying the species and its geolocation. This is the Seeds of Life project.

Such initiative is of the General Internal Affairs of the Court of Justice of the State of Amazonas through the Programa Corregedoria Mais Verde (Greener Internal Affairs Program), in partnership with the Soka Amazônia Institute, the Center of Native Seeds of Amazonas (CSNAM), the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), the National Institute of Amazonian Research (INPA), the Manaus City Hall, the company Rymo da Amazônia, the Association of Natural Person Registrars (ARPEN/AM) and the Specialized Environmental Court (VEMA)

This environmental humanization action is part of the educational initiatives of its creators, who plant and maintain the seedlings planted in the region and offer lectures on the subject.

The idea is to collaborate in the expansion of the city’s green areas, involving the population in this process from as early as childhood.

Environmental Academy

Students and teachers who feel the
importance of environmental education in nature

At the Environmental Academy, students from the public school system have access to Environmental Education at the facilities of the Soka Amazon Institute, in an experience that blends knowledge about conservation, biodiversity management, and interaction with the environment.

The visits are accompanied by the researchers of the Soka Amazon Institute.

Since its inception, the program has had the participation of thousands of elementary school students from many of the schools in Manaus and the region.

In addition, professors and academics from Brazilian and foreign public and private educational institutions, as well as scientists, participate, each in their own way, in the Environmental Academy and the other projects.

The Life Memorial

One tree for every Covid-19 fatality

It is sadly known that there is no word that can fully comfort the families who have experienced losses caused by Covid-19. The Life Memorial Project, which is being executed by the Soka Amazon Institute, is a posthumous tribute to every fatal victim in our country, and has the support of many, especially several partner companies and the Catholic Church of the Amazon itself, who have decisively come together in this challenge.

We have received expressions of support and offers of help in this huge plantation from all around the world.

This is one of those missions that we would rather not be doing, but that we do with great respect for each of the lives lost.

Manaus Te Quero Verde (Manaus, I Want You Green)

Encouraging young people to acquire the habit of planting trees

The Manaus, I Want You Green campaign, which the Institute joined in 2021, is an initiative of the Municipal Education Secretariat of Manaus and is not limited to planting a certain number of trees.

Its main goal is to encourage young people to acquire the habit of planting them.

The bold goal is 10 new trees for each student enrolled in the municipal school network, which means that it can reach the expressive number of 2 million new trees, which will contribute to neutralize the negative mark that Manaus holds as a scarcely wooded city.

What is being done is a work in which everyone collaborates, each one playing his or her role. Withyoung people in mind, it is not a formal training program, but having participated in the activities, they end up assimilating not only the technique of planting but they also – and this is the most valuable part – acquire a taste for planting trees and learn very well what to plant, where to plant, and how to plant.

Semear (Seeding)

More than a thousand trees planted keep the risk of extinction at bay

In the Semear Project (2016/2019), the Soka Amazon Institute worked on two fronts. In the first, in partnership with Panasonic Brazil and the Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero), we planted about 1,000 trees around the Eduardo Gomes International Airport. Many of these seedlings were of endangered species and this represented one more step in the environmental recovery of a vast area of Manaus.

The second area, is the one adjacent to the Igarapé do Mindu, which is 22 kilometers long and crosses the capital. Besides several neighborhoods, the Golf Club Manaus is located there, where the other planting of seeds took place.

Although it has pure and crystalline waters at its source, the Igarapé do Mindu is seriously compromised and a public project is under execution for its revitalization, with the goal of transforming it into the Urban Ecological Corridor created by Municipal Decree in October 2007.

Mindu: life and death of the largest stream in Manaus

A leisure symbol of the manauara population in the 1940s and 1950s, it is no secret that the well-known Igarapé do Mindu is polluted in almost all its extension.
